Central Park ice skating marriage proposal

The iconic ice rink in Central Park is now hosting marriage proposals.  The Wollman ice rink was opened in 1950 and it was formerly part of the Pond, located directly east of Wollman Rink. The Pond’s western section was drained and backfilled during the mid-20th century. The rink is located at the southeast corner of Central Park and it is the largest and the oldest ice rink in New York City. So if you are looking for a surprise proposal idea with the best views of the Manhattan skyline, this location would be perfect for you.

How to propose on the ice rink in Central Park

Wollman ice rink is located near the southeast corner of Central Park, New York City. Entrance at 59th Street and 6th avenue. It is open Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 10 pm from November to March 31, 2022.

The marriage proposal is happening between the ice skating sessions and before the ice clearing. Depending on the day, there are 3-5 proposal slots available.  When you book the proposal package it includes skate rentals and a locker, private time on the ice rink for the marriage proposal, music of your choice for the proposal, and a secret photographer to capture the big surprise.

When you arrive at the ice rink, our photographer will be taking secret pictures of you and your partner while you skate with the other people on the rink. After the announcement will be made to leave the ice for the cleaning, you stay and pretend you want to take a picture on the empty rink with your partner. Give your phone to one of the workers and wait for the music to start. Once your song is playing, get on one knee and ask the question. Don’t rush, as the photographer is not allowed to be on the ice so he might need time to change the angle and get that clear shot. So take an extra second on one knee. After that, you can skate around the rink while the song is playing or pose for the photographer. Also, be prepared for big cheering from the crowd.

Usually, the photographer takes some pictures at the rink and then suggests walking around the park and taking more styled pictures. The ice rink is conveniently located near the stunning Gapstow Bridge, which is perfect for engagement shoots, and Cat’s rock, which has broad views of the Manhattan Skyline.
