Marriage proposal on a beach in NYC sounds almost impossible, unless you know about these secret locations. As a New York City’s local planning company, we can bring your beach proposal dream into reality. Here are known and hidden beaches around the city.
Hidden beaches in NYC area:
Pebble beach, Dumbo
One of the most picturesque little beaches in New York, this location is absolutely iconic. Located right underneath the Manhattan Bridge, this beach has stunning views of Downtown Manhattan, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Jane’s Carousel. Ideal location for a sunset proposal. It is a very public location, but the views make it worth it.
You can have a little decor up here, but need to get a permit for it. In general, no confetti, balloons, rose petals are allowed in this area. For a permit, you need 21 -day notice for application. This beach is perfect for a flower arch marriage proposal.
Gansevoort beach, Midtown
This is a relatively new location as the Gansevoort Peninsula was opened a couple of years ago. It is located in the Meatpacking district and a part of the Hudson River Park. This location has direct views of Downtown Manhattan, The Freedom Tower and the NJ waterfront. You can propose during the day and continue the photo session at Little Island or the High Line park or propose at night with the candlelight heart and secret proposal photographer to capture the moment.
Charlotte beach, Williamsburg
This spot is known only to the locals and its not that easy to find. Located in the Marsha P. Johnson State Park in Williamsburg, this beach has the most insane skyline of Midtown Manhattan, the Williamsburg Bridge and Long Island City. This location is ideal for a sunset proposal with a musician and a hidden photographer.
Brighton beach, Brooklyn
The largest and most easily accessible beach in NYC is, of course, the iconic Brighton Beach. You can spend the whole day there, with lots of restaurants, the Coney Island Amusement Park, the NYC Aquarium, this location has it all. This beach is perfect for a candlelight marriage proposal or a sunset picnic proposal. As its the closest public beach, there are lots of people here year round. We would recommend proposing on a weekday in early morning or after sunset.
Rockaway beach, Queens
The Rockaway beach is a vast, sandy beach located in Queens. It is the only legal surfing beach in NYC and known for its California vibes. As this beach is further from the city, you can expect fewer crowds and in some areas more privacy than anywhere else. This is a perfect day trip proposal spot as you can spend the whole day in this area. You can propose with the huge flower heart or the Marry Me letters with the photographer and videographer capturing every moment.
Hamptons and Long Island beach
These beaches are around a 4 hr drive from the city and would require a full day. If you are looking for a sophisticated beach proposal, this would be the place. The elegant all -white flower proposal would be ideal for this beach. You can also do a private yacht proposal or a luxury picnic on a beach. For fast transportation, there is a private helicopter tour flying from NYC to the Hampton. Our photographer and videographer will be there to document the proposal.

Things to keep in mind when planning your beach proposal in NY?
- Permits. Most of the beaches will ask you for a special event permit, which is usually acquired within 21 -day notice.
- Parking fees and beach entrance fee. If you are driving, keep in mind that all beaches charge for a car parking and there is an entrance fee, unless you propose after 8 pm, when most of the entrances are free.
- Weather. It can be very windy by the water, so if you have an elaborate setup in mind, be prepared that it might not hold up. In the event of rain, there is no cover, so think of plan ‘B’ as well.
- Sand. Yes, sand will be everywhere. When getting ready, make sure your partner wears sandals and not high heels.
- Clean up. The rule is you don’t leave any trash after yourself, so no rose petals, confetti, balloons and plastic bottles.
