The Untermyer Gardens Conservancy is one of the top proposal locations in NY area. It is a historic 43-acre park with European influence. Overlooking the Hudson river and Palisades, the Untermyer Gardens are known for its Indo-Persian gardens, an open air amphitheater and the iconic endless stairs leading to the overlook.

Where to propose at the Untermyer Gardens?
The gardens are absolutely stunning and every spot is better than the previous once. The most popular is, of course, is the Temple of love. It is a circular stone temple with the Hudson River and Palisades in the background. The location is rather private and will be perfect for a surprise marriage proposal. The photographer can hide at the pathway leading to the Temple and secretly document the proposal from there.
Our next popular location would be the Vista Overlook. This is the most grand spot for a surprise proposal. The endless stairs descend towards the Hudson River overlook. The two marble columns frame the perfect shot for a proposal location. Ideal for sunset photography and video.
The Persian pool is probably the most photographed spot within the gardens. It featured the reflection pool, mosaic details and grand columns. Perfect spot for a surprise proposal.
Best season to propose at the Untermyer Gardens?
Summer will be the most popular season in the gardens. The Indo-Persian garden was intended to resemble a ‘paradise on earth’ and thus had features inspired by religious descriptions of paradise.
Fall would be more quiet time in the gardens and ideal for a leisure stroll around it. With the Palisades changing their colors, the whole area looks magical.
How to make a proposal more personal?
The garden doesnt allow large props, but you can also discuss different proposal decorations with the garden. You will need to get a permit for it. Overall, the garden is really magnificent, so you don’t need any decor, but to enhance the ambience, you can hire a live musician to perform her favorite song or have a gigantic flower bouquet on site to gift after the proposal. Hire a professional team of photographers and video to document the engagement.
