How to propose by the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree?

The holiday season is a special time of year, and it’s the perfect time to pop the question to your special someone. If you’re looking for an iconic place to propose in New York City, Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is one of the most desirable locations for this season. Here are some tips and tricks on how to pull off the perfect tree proposal in New York.

Propose on the Ice Rink

The best way to secure that iconic Christmas Tree shot proposal is by reserving the Rockefeller Center Ice Rink.  There are 3-4 slots per day and you can reserve it a month in advance.  At first, you will be skating with the whole group, but when the time comes for the ice cut and everyone will leave the rink, the song of your choice would start to play and you propose. This is a very public way of proposing and just be aware that everyone will be recording and congratulating you. Also, with the new rink management, the photographers are not allowed to step on the ice, so all the pictures are taken from the spectacular benches.

Come to the Rockefeller Center Plaza Early

So if you want to propose at the Holiday tree and want it to be private come to the plaza at 6 am. The tree lights up at 6 am sharp every day and it’s still dark outside, so you will get that “night’ shots and the whole area just for yourself. If 6 am sounds way too early for you, try to avoid the popular times and don’t propose during the ‘ rush’ hour. Usually, the busiest time is from 4-8 pm, so try to come before or after that time to pop the question. On Sundays, parts of 5th avenue are closed for the ” car-free” zone, so lots of people are walking around, and its definitely a ‘no’.

Propose off the main site

There are more people taking pictures from the main area ( with the angels’ statues) than from side angles.  So if you want to pop the question by the tree choose the side spots. You still will get the whole tree in your pictures and more space for yourself. When we do proposals in that area we can even get a musician or a ‘ marry me’ sign as it’s enough space for some light decoration. But as always, avoid ‘ rush hours’ and popular days.

Choose an alternative tree

There are lots of stunning Christmas trees in New York and if you want to propose by the tree but want it to be different we would recommend choosing an alternative option. The second-best tree in the city is located at the Lotte Palace and it’s a real show-stopper. The tree is located in the Lotte New York Palace’s courtyard and is decorated with its signature red and gold ornaments.

If you looking for something untraditional, choose the Public Hotel disco ball tree. It is made up of over 450 individual mirrored balls and changes colors from red to silver and purple.

If you looking for an area where you can spend the whole day, choose the Sea Port Christmas Tree. This location is full of fun activities, fancy restaurants, museums, coffee shops, and bars. Perfect place for a proposal and celebration after.
