How to surprise your partner with the marriage proposal this Valentine’s Day

And just like this, the February month is here and with it, one of the most romantic days of the year – Valentine’s Day. Started as a religious celebration, this tradition makes its way up to the modern-day as a festival of romance that celebrates love and relationship.

The history of Valentine’s Day

The tale saying that there was a saint Valentine, who continued to marry couples after Emperor Claudius banned marriages in order to keep his soldiers in focus. But Valentine refused to embrace paganism as it was against the Christina traditions and Claudius had him executed around 269 AD. It is said, that while he was in prison he fell in love with the blind women and his love healed her. He wrote her a letter and signed it ” From your Valentine”.  And that is how the tradition to celebrate love and relationship was born.

How to surprise your partner with the marriage proposal on Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day is a very tricky day to propose. On the one hand, this is a perfect day to celebrate love and relationship, on the other – it is a bit of a cliche.  So how can you surprise your partner on a day like this?

  1. Celebrate Valentine’s Day

Ask your partner what she would like to do on this day and do that. While she thinks that this is how you two are going to spend the day, plan your proposal before or after that. For example, we had a couple who booked a romantic couples massage on that day. And while walking to the appointment they stopped by at the park to get coffee and that’s where we did the full flower setup and proposal happened. They got engaged in a park and after went to the massage appointment. What is great in this plan is that the girl was not expecting a surprise as she knew where they were going, since she planned it. That was epic!

2. Propose after dinner

For many couples, dinner on Valentine’s Day is the main highlight of the day and that is when the partner is expected a proposal. Choose a romantic restaurant, where you need to dress up and ask your partner out. At the dinner be nice and casual, but don’t give any hints. No phrases ” you will see”, ” I planned something special for you”! On the way home, stumble upon a street artist, who would be singing your song. Stop to listen and one by one the singers would start come over and sing all together. Propose at the end of the song.

3.  Incorporate Flashmob

Valentine’s Day is known for roses. You literally can see people buying, selling, carrying them around the city. What if you and your partner will be walking on the street and people one by one will be giving you the roses. What if they will follow you and dance, that would look very strange, isn’t it? Act surprised and when the time is right, get on the one knee.  Flashmob is one of the best ways to surprise your partner on a day like this. Because we all heard about it and we want to experience it.

4.  Room makeover

One of the non-obvious ways to surprise your partner with the proposal is the proposal at home. You can be coming back home from the dinner or the late movie, open a door and see your apartment fully transformed. We love doing the home makeovers as it brings a new light to the everyday things. Usually, girls are very surprised and amazed at how beautiful their living room can be. Also, it is a great way to have family and friends involved in the proposal, by helping to decorate the place.

5. Keep it simple

Somehow Valentine’s Day brings a huge amount of weight and stress on the men’s shoulders and they tend to overdo it.  And instead of something sweet and simple, they do a huge public proposal not taking their partner’s personality into consideration. Keep it simple. Your partner will be really happy and surprise by seeing you getting on one knee. So instead of big, flashy things just really think of what your partner would like and do it. Maybe instead of the Times Square proposal give her a  heart-shaped diamond ring, which will perfectly fit into the Valnetine’s Day theme.

Valentine’s Day proposal can be a disaster if approached wrong, but at the same time this is one of the pure relationship celebrations and proposing on a day like this is wonderful.
